Our little guy has finally arrived! Michael made a relatively smooth arrival on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 3:10 pm. He was 8 lbs 5.5 oz and measured 20.5 inches! He has red hair and blue eyes and looks just like his big brother (and in turn his father!).
We arrived at the hospital at 6 am where they promptly took me to a room, got me in a gown and started to measure my contractions, which were definitely happening (they had been forever) just not regular. Around 7 am they started me on pitocin then at 8:30is Dr. Williams came in and broke my water! Contractions started to get very steady then, and around 10 am I got my epidural. Michael was not real happy with the contractions and I spent much of the labor on my side trying to keep him out of distress. Tiff, Mom and Dad arrived to distract me around noonish and Dr. Williams returned to tell us that (after an exam) it looked like Michaels head was a little off kilter so she straightened him out.
Not a lot happened for the next hour or so, but all of a sudden I jumped to 7 cm. Then I paged my nurse about 20 minutes later telling her I needed to up the epidural cause I could start to feel the contractions, she came in, did an exam and said, we will top you off on the epi, but we are also going to call Dr. Williams because you are ready to push! Within 10 mins the anethesiologist had topped me off (I love that). Dr. Williams arrived and I started to push. 10 minutes after I started to push, Michael arrived (so much better than my two hours of pushing with Alex)!
I started to cry when I saw my beautiful boy, his red hair and how much he looked like his daddy! It is amazing to look at my boys and see the face of the man I love so much. I am truly blessed!
We were moved to the smallest room ever (seriously I have seen closets bigger than this) so Jason headed home. He came back early Sat. to have breakfast with us and we found out that little guy and I could head home in the afternoon. So after a quick circumcision, we started to plan on coming home.
We arrived home around 6 pm on Saturday night. Jason and I spent a lot of the night up trying to figure out what Michael's cry's really meant. We anticipate a lot of this moving forward but are ready for the challenge!
