It has been a while

Almost a month to be exact! We have been swamped keeping up with two children. Yesterday was possibly the WORST parenting day Jason and I have ever had. We spend approximately 80% of the day (0r so it seemed) yelling at Alex. He pooped in his pants 4 times and was talking back and acting up. It was awful. Jason and I both were just spent by the time he got to bed.

We did have a nice dinner and we laughed so hard we cried. It was just what we needed. A little bit of remeberance (Is that a word) of why we embarked on the incredible journey of parenthood together. I love him so much. He really is my soulmate. I couldn't ask for a better partner in life and parenthood! (even though he drives me nuts).

Michael is a dream sleeping 7-8 hours a night. It should be interesting how he does with his grandmothers

Donna arrives on Tuesday and my mom arrives on Thursday. Can't wait to leave Thursday afternoon for Laura's wedding. As much as I will miss my little munchkins, I am so looking forward to a weekend with my hubby, and my girlfriends. It will be just like old times, but enhanced with my friends!

Check in week of the 13th for pics and stories of the wedding!

Our first trip to the Dentist

Well, what I thought was going to be horrible, was actually a piece of cake (it is great to have low expectations, then everything turns out great). Alex was an angel at the dentist...I almost (almost being the key word because I didn't want to embarrass myself or my little guy) got a bit teary eyed watching him, he seemed like such a big boy. He listened to the hygentist and thought the dentist was pretty cool. The diagnosis was....Perfect teeth! Hopefully we can keep it up.

Michael is an incredible sleeper. Last night he went from eating at 8 pm, going to sleep around 9 and waking up at 2 am for another feeding! He isn't even 5 weeks old. He is a dream. He looks so much like his father.

Both boys have a bit of a stuffy nose, but are still the sweetest things ever. I feel very blessed to have 3 wonderful men in my life.

Jason and I celebrate 6 years of marriage on Sunday. No special plans this year, but I will surprise him after I go back to work...

Two isn't too bad

I was a CSU widow yesterday with Jason leaving around 1 ish to head out to the CU CSU game (CSU got their asses kicked). Was hoping Alex would be a good little guy, but the afternoon started out foreboding when he refused to take a nap. We negotiated a truce, with the agreement of some "quiet time" in his room, it lasted an hour, and when he came back downstairs he was in a pretty good mood. He and I learned to make balloon animals while his brother slept next to us.

All was well until I suggested that he try and go poop, he wasn't reallly excited about that. But he eventually did try.

Saturaday was a good day as we headed to the Taste of Colorado, which I had never been to. We met the Budd's and the boys took their fathers by the hands and headed to play games and ride rides while Bethany and I chilled with Michael and Kate.

While walking back to the 16th street mall shuttle I stumbled, rolled my foot and of course did something to it. Spent all night with ice on it, I swear I am the biggest klutz alive and I think Alex inherited my "skills".

DNC Arrives in Denver!

Excited about the news of Joe Biden as Obama's VP! The excitement has hit Denver, as has the traffic, and of course Hollywood! Should be interesting.

Michael is a joy, sleeping 5 hours a night. I feel surprisingly well rested. Alex is still struggling a bit with wanting all of the attention, but he loves his baby brother, always giving him kisses and wanting to see him.

We took the whole family to Water World yesterday and Alex was amazed! He and Jason had a blast until Alex had diaherrhea and pooped in his pants, Jason went to put him on his shoulders, which caused the poop to shoot up out of top of his bathing suit and down Jason's back....needless to say he was not happy, but he did handle it pretty well....

Jason has been working on fixing the faucet in the downstairs bath, when this one is done, finally all of our faucets will be working.

Two Weeks Old

Here I am at 10 till 2 am blogging away, Jason woke me up about an hour ago and I have been listening to Michael have the hiccups for the past 10 minutes, hoping he would fall asleep. He is not interested in eating right now, but that may change! He is a joy, a basically easy baby who can usually go about 4-4.5 hours of sleep in the middle of the night (let's hope I didn't just jinx that). He is starting to be awake during the day which is nice too.

As for Alex, he definitely loves his baby brother, but is having some serious potty training regression. He has not pooped in the potty since Michael was born, instead choosing to go in his pants. I am following all the "experts" advice and ignoring, but this is proving to be harder for Jason. He did show some restraint tonight and I am hoping he will continue to "blow this off" and give Alex the chance to figure it out himself. I don't want anything messing with his emotions, Alex is a sensitive little guy!

Had a major hair tragedy last night. I was trying to be frugal and save some money by highlighting my own hair...bad move. Turned out orange. Thank goodness for mom! She called her hairdresser who put together a "fixer" and mom is coming down (probably in about 5 hours) with the mixture.

Should be interesting tonight as Jason is going to the Broncos game with Chris, my first night with both boys on my own. I think I can handle it!

Almost a week old!

It has been an interesting 6 days learning about Michael, so far we have learned that he is fairly easy, let's hope he stays that way! Alex is regressing a bit with his potty training and peed on the floor the other day. In our half brain dead, not a lot of sleep, world, we forgot that vinegar took up the urine and got rid of the smell, that is until the next day. So yesterday Jason and I spent the morning trying to hunt down the exact spot and use the vinegar. End result, our family room smelled like vinegar, which was better than urine. Although today, I feel like the urine smell is back...ARGH! I swear it is never ending. Last night he pooped in his pants, I looked at Jason who was holding Michael and I said, "you want to change the big guy or the little one?" He opted for the little one :-). We are going to pull out the old parenting standby, bribery, and see if we can get him back on track.

Jason's mom arrives tomorrow and Jas heads back to work on Monday. It has been so nice having him here this week and just having our family of 4 figuring out a schedule. Jason said something yesterday about "the kids" and it really hit me that we have two wonderful little boys. I feel very blessed.

Tiff came over last night to deliver presents (made her a BIG hit with Alex) and to pick out lingerie for Laura's shower. Who knew that picking out lingerie for someone else was so difficult. We finally decided on something. I hope she likes it!

Michael Arthur Hauck

Our little guy has finally arrived! Michael made a relatively smooth arrival on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 3:10 pm. He was 8 lbs 5.5 oz and measured 20.5 inches! He has red hair and blue eyes and looks just like his big brother (and in turn his father!).

We arrived at the hospital at 6 am where they promptly took me to a room, got me in a gown and started to measure my contractions, which were definitely happening (they had been forever) just not regular. Around 7 am they started me on pitocin then at 8:30is Dr. Williams came in and broke my water! Contractions started to get very steady then, and around 10 am I got my epidural. Michael was not real happy with the contractions and I spent much of the labor on my side trying to keep him out of distress. Tiff, Mom and Dad arrived to distract me around noonish and Dr. Williams returned to tell us that (after an exam) it looked like Michaels head was a little off kilter so she straightened him out.

Not a lot happened for the next hour or so, but all of a sudden I jumped to 7 cm. Then I paged my nurse about 20 minutes later telling her I needed to up the epidural cause I could start to feel the contractions, she came in, did an exam and said, we will top you off on the epi, but we are also going to call Dr. Williams because you are ready to push! Within 10 mins the anethesiologist had topped me off (I love that). Dr. Williams arrived and I started to push. 10 minutes after I started to push, Michael arrived (so much better than my two hours of pushing with Alex)!

I started to cry when I saw my beautiful boy, his red hair and how much he looked like his daddy! It is amazing to look at my boys and see the face of the man I love so much. I am truly blessed!

We were moved to the smallest room ever (seriously I have seen closets bigger than this) so Jason headed home. He came back early Sat. to have breakfast with us and we found out that little guy and I could head home in the afternoon. So after a quick circumcision, we started to plan on coming home.

We arrived home around 6 pm on Saturday night. Jason and I spent a lot of the night up trying to figure out what Michael's cry's really meant. We anticipate a lot of this moving forward but are ready for the challenge!
